Steelhead Fishing in Oregon

I got invited to go fishing with a friend from work. We went to Oregon on the Columbia River. We had a great trip and caught fish everyday. Steelhead are amazing fighters; they're fun to catch.

This was the largest fish I caught. It was 35" long and 15 lbs.

Amazing elk in in Twin Falls, Idaho. These are two 400 class bulls!

Gortex Cowboy

Gortex, Gore-Tex or Goretex (however it is spelled) is a man made material used to make extreme weather protection clothing like pants, jackets and boots. It is waterproof, windproof, breathable, light and comfortable. It was introduced more than 25 years ago and has proven to be a very reliabel fabric. I invested in some good outdoor gear many years ago, so I could enjoy being outdoors more. I often think about how times have changed and how the cowboys of old did not have many of the comforts that we have today. If they were lucky they had an oiled piece of canvas to stay dry. I feel out of place at times when I realize I am packing two GPS units, cell phone, camera, packaged food, wearing a Gortex jacket, sunscreen and a baseball hat. Some may be wondering why I named this site the Gortex Cowboy. I realized years ago that I am not a cowboy, I love the cowboy life, but I have broken the mold, I am not worthy of being called a cowboy, I am a modern day cowboy, therefore I am the Gortex Cowboy.
I am not real good a putting my thoughts on paper, but this picture is a perfect example of what I am trying to explain. If you have a hard time understanding what I am trying to say, just read slower.
Perhaps a "Sesame Street" song will help you find the Gortex Cowboy.

One of these cowboy's is not like the others,
One of these cowboy's doesn't belong,
Can you tell which cowboy is not like the others,
By the time I finish this song?
Did you guess which one is not like the others,
Did you guess which one doesn't belong,
If you guessed the one on the right,
Your absolutely ........ Right!!

But!
All of these cowboys belong together,
All of these cowboys are kind of the same,
But, one of these cowboys is doing his own thing,
It' only because he is insane!
Did you guess the one in the orange jacket as the Gortex cowboy? Shocker!!

Pine Canyon

On April 18, 2009 Justin and I rode to Pine Canyon with Scott Oliver and our new friends, Paul Gooch, Mike Gooch and Larry Dunn. I had met Larry last summer in Huntington Canyon as the SRBCHU hosted a service project. We had met Paul and Mike the day before on a ride across box flat to Devils Hole. We got along real well with them on the ride and enjoyed visiting with them at the dinner that night. We decided to get together on Saturday after the State BCHU meeting and ride some more together.

Justin and Paul met on Saturday and within minutes were teasing each other about which was better, horses or mules. I began to think that Justin would end my new friendship with Paul and Mike as Justin stuck up for the horses and dished out almost as much as Paul did to Justin. It was fun to hear them joking and having fun. Paul talked Justin into riding his mules. As Justin climbed on the mules, we snapped some pictures. Justin did not want to get his picture taken on a mule.

San Rafael Backcounty Horsemen of Utah (SRBCHU)

I have been working on creating a logo for the local chapter of the Back Country Horsemen. With the help of Sign Edge, this is what we have created so far.
